Solvang, the Danish capital of California, is located just north of US-101 on CA-246 in northern Santa Barbara County. The community is maintained in Danish architecture to resemble a small village.

SolvangIt was established in 1911 by a committee from the Midwest which was intent upon purchasing land on the West Coast to found a Danish colony with a Danish folks school and a Lutheran Church.  The name Solvang means "Sunny Field." Coffee shops, restaurants and bakeries specialize in Danish food. The town has covered walkways and festive shops overflowing with imported candles, linens, pottery, jewelry, clothing and wine. The three-day Danish Days Festival marks Denmark's Independence Day and costumed folk dancers fill the streets for the visitors' enjoyment. Solvang's nightly Festival Theater program, from June to September, offers contemporary and classic stage productions on an open air theater.
